Henry R. Nau is professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University, and the author, most recently, of Conservative Internationalism: Armed Diplomacy under Jefferson, Polk, Truman, and Reagan (Princeton University Press). He served on President Reagan’s National Security Council from 1981 to 1983.
